“IT’S FRIDAY, 5PM, THE STREETS’R TIPSY WITH POSSIBILITY, EXPECTATION...
EVERYBODY’S DREAMING, BEAMING, GETTING STEAMING FOR THE NIGHT AHEAD…”
CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT
Written by Danielle Phillips
A Play, A Poem, and A Party
GCSE results day 1997: Lindsay Jenkins - a young Donny lass with an A in English, a thirst for rave and £4.25 for the taxi home - embarks on her first PROPER night out.
Armed with a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 and her best mate Jen, Lindsay loses herself in the hedonism of Doncaster's infamous club Karisma. The bass drops. The strobe hits. This is freedom. This is everything.
But when chasing the high of clubland becomes all-consuming, and a national media storm erupts around the UK's first heterosexual HIV cluster, Lindsay must confront the brutal truths lurking beneath the bassline.
Children of the Night is a love letter to the working-class cultural pulse of the North, mixing kitchen-sink drama with spoken-word dance-floor euphoria.
